Summary of current project(s) of working group:

 

  • “Change in calcinosis over 1 year using the SCTC Radiologic Scoring System for Calcinosis of the hands in patients with Systemic Sclerosis”
  • “Plasma Inorganic Pyrophosphate (PPi) levels as a biomarker for ectopic calcification in scleroderma spectrum and other rheumatic diseases”
  • “Blood levels of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and VEGF-induced osteoclast activity in patients with systemic sclerosis with and without calcinosis cutis”
  • "Validation of Mawdsley Questionnaire for calcinosis in patients with Systemic Sclerosis and calcinosis cutis"

Progress to date for working group:

  • Prospective study accepted for publication in Seminars Arthritis and Rheumatism.
  • VEGF project received renewed funding from SCTC (2nd year)

Next steps:

  • To publish the results of the radiographic study
  • To start enrollment of patients for VEGF study
  • To validate the Mawdsley Questionnaire for calcinosis

What are expected deliverables and timelines for grant/working group?

  • Recruitment of SSc patients and healthy controls for VEGF study - December 2021
  • Scoring of all hand XR from validation cohort and analysis of results - October 2021
  • Draft, and final manuscript of SCTC Radiologic Scoring System for Calcinosis study submitted for peer review - December 2021
